Sequence (2023)
Aluminium, Glass, LED, Amber, Stainless Steel
480 x 370 x 200 mm
Music, in particular the community of dance music, is built upon togetherness. A gathering of people that leads to moments of ecstasy both spiritually and literally through repetitive ritual like experiences. The artist explores the hardware that defines electronic dance music, such as Moog synth racks and Roland 303 and 909 drum machines. ‘Sequence’ is a sculptural appreciation of this hardware and the moments that are created by the artists who use them.
The use of repetitive glass spheres in contrast with raw aluminium plate define the form whilst back lighting of the glass creates a soft glow. A variation in the pair comes in the form of black and white glass. Black producing a dim blue glow reminiscent of "black" club lights and white producing a warm glow like the early hours of the morning post rave.
